Stress is the state of mental and emotional strain which affects every aspect of our body and our physical well-being that is on the rise everyday and sometimes we think it is just normal. But what happen when we are stressed? What happens to our body? For one thing, our cortisol level will shoot up and our DHEA will shoot down. DHEA is our “feel good hormone” that keeps our body functioning healthily and happily. When our cortisol increases, our immune response decreases. As a result, our balance of nervous and hormonal systems decrease, and our pain perception increases and we will have a decrease in our brain function.

Stress and the immune system have a complex relationship. Your immune system knows when you’re stressed about work, family, finances or current events. The body’s natural defender is sensitive to psychological stress, especially if it’s chronic. Chronic stress can produce higher-than-normal levels of the hormone cortisol. This can hamper the body’s anti-inflammatory response and cause continual infections, according to recent immunology research studies.

When one is struggling with stress, we are suffering tension on the neck and shoulders that may lead to headache, trouble in sleeping, busy minds, tightness on the chest, shortness of breath, heart racing, and some people experience an upset stomach. Other symptoms vary from one person to another.

Using Essential Oils to combat stress will aid in relaxing the nervous system by applying (don’t forget to use with carrier oil) on the top of our head, bottom of our feet or the so-called Vita Flex, on the wrist where we usually apply perfume, and in the abdomen. Inhaling essential oils will also help to relax the body.

Why applying on the wrist? The inner wrist is another common location to apply roll-on essential oils, and the reason for that is because the wrist is another pulse point. Your radial artery runs along the inside of your wrist, which makes it easy for your body to absorb essential oils into the bloodstream.

Benefits of inhaling Essential Oils: The sense of smell will trigger the limbic system and will circulate to our body very quickly. Try using Lavender, Cedarwood, or Stressaway Essential Oil blend (Young Living) by inhaling on a bottle or diffusing it which will have very profound physiological and psychological effects. This will switch our emotions just like we have endured suffering and regained strength.
